Overview

The Department of Teacher Education is committed to developing individuals who recognize that theirs is the responsibility of shaping the nation’s future.  Applicants should be 18 years and older to apply to the Department of Teacher Education. The programmes are designed to develop reflective professionals who are armed with a repertoire of basic teaching models, strategies and skills that they can apply to the range of learner needs that they will encounter in the classroom.

Participants are also challenged to be innovative problem solvers, who are flexible and have a positive orientation to change. To this end, participants are challenged to commit themselves to continuous and lifelong learning.

Associate Degrees in Education (ADE)

ADE Primary (Full-time)

ADE Secondary - Full-time

Acceptance Criteria

Associate Degree in Education – Primary

A minimum of five (5) CSEC passes or five (5) O’Level subjects including:

  • English A

  • Mathematics

  • Social Studies, History or Geography

  • Science (single or integrated)

  • One (1) additional subject

Must be 18 years or older

Two (2) references

Associate Degree in Education – Secondary (Offered next in 2023)

  • Two (2) units of CAPE and at least five (5) CSEC subjects or the equivalent O’Level passes including English A and Mathematics.
  •  
    • Specific entry requirements apply for specializations in the various disciplines
    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Two (2) References

Teacher's Pledge

Recognizing that I paly an integral role in the world’s most noble profession and that I have been entrusted with the awesome responsibility of shaping the nation’s future. I pledge my commitment to training the youth to believe in themselves discover their talent and realized their true potentials. I pledge to be diligent in my planning, enthusiastic in my delivery, and comprehensive in my assessment of instruction. I further pledge to instill civic responsibility in my charges by modeling the virtues of punctuality, regularity, decency and honesty in my daily routine. These I will do to prepare students to make a difference in their homes, their communities and in the wider world.
