Antigua State College was established in 1977 after a merger of the Leeward Islands Teachers’ Training College and the Golden Grove Technical College. The Technical College included the Commercial Department, the Engineering and the Hotel and Catering Departments. The Advanced Level was added in 1978 through the amalgamation of all Sixth Forms in the island’s school system. The college offerings expanded yet again in 1998 with the establishment of the School of Pharmacy and again in 2000 when the forty-four-year-old School of Nursing was integrated into the Antigua State College.
Currently, four of the five departments offer programmes of study under new names: the Department of Business, the Department of Industrial Technology, the Department of Liberal Arts and the Department of Teacher Education.
The Antigua State College is committed to providing the academic, technical, vocational, professional and paraprofessional needs of the country through the delivery of its programmes using innovative, technological modes while providing continuing education to satisfy the human development requirements of its citizens.
The Antigua State College will become a degree granting institution providing the citizens of Antigua and Barbuda and the Caribbean region with greater opportunities to access tertiary level education and training by creating the environment for quality instruction in the delivery of its courses and programmes. In addition, the college will develop a student friendly environment designed to enhance human potential and promote lifelong learning.
